Bravely Bound RPG
Loading

The sprite I’ll be using to represent encounters on the map for my lesbian web RPG Bravely Bound.

I was planning to do a fully random invisible encounters type system like Final Fantasy, but after doing more research decided against it. I like the idea of having encounters visible on the map so you can avoid them, because it makes things more interesting. But I can’t afford to make sprites for every monster in the game for the map as well, so I decided to use a generic encounter and what you’ll get if you hit it is random.

This system will be a little more work up front than truly random encounters, but once I get it set up it should be barely any more work.

While I’m talking about encounters, I’ve also decided to add a system of affixes like seen in Diablo that can randomly be applied to a monster in an encounter, which means there’s a chance you’ll have to fight a sort of mini boss occasionally.

What inspired the title? Given that it's an RPG, I'm reminded of Earthbound. The title cards also sorta look similar.

I knew I wanted something with Bound in the title, because of some of the themes I have planned for the story about feeling trapped either physically or by duty. ‘Bravely’ hints at vulnerability, but also the fact that it’s an RPG where things are killed with weapons.

As for the graphical design I didn’t look at Earthbound, I mostly looked at the style of classic RPG logos like Golden Sun, Breath of Fire II, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6, Secret of Mana and Tales of Phantasia.
